Meanwhile, Back At The DNC

Tom Perez, eh? I was thinking that a younger dude like Canada’s Justin Trudeau would be the new leader of the Democratic Party. I mean, really, aren’t there enough bald or gray heads in power these days? But, hey, I’m not a Democrat. Many years ago, I registered as a Dem so I could vote in a primary for a woman who was running for re-election as mayor. We don’t have open primaries here in Connecticut so I had to go to Town Hall and sign up as a donkey party member. My candidate lost, so I had to trek back to Town Hall and change it. Never again. Once again, I’m back where I’ve been most of my adult life, stuck in the middle. Sometimes I feel like an alien from another planet. I’m looking bac

Two Things

Thing 1: Yes, the press is the enemy of the people, that is, the people who cling to “alternative facts” and fake news. The people who think trump is some kind of oracle, a godlike L.Ron Hubbard-type. The press is enemy of lies and half-truths. Mainstream media is hated by the political extremes: trumpophiles and the extreme left, which means the middle gets it right. My news sources that I depend on most are mainstream. Yes, I dance to the edges occasionally. I like to see what the nut-cases are up to. I’m even watching Fox News Channel regularly. Thing 2: The Republicans have taken hypocrisy to a whole new level. They are without question the artists of the catchy phrase,“don’t do as I do,

Learn From The Indians

We can’t let just anybody into the United States. We have to have an immigration policy that works. Look what happened to the Wampanoags. If only they would’ve thought ahead and had a practical immigration policy, they could’ve put a limit on Europeans, say, just one boatload and that’s it.

Banned On Joe

Co-host Mika Brzezinski has banned Kellyanne Conjob from appearing on “Morning Joe.” That’s right, Mika has stood up and put her foot down. “We know for a fact that she tries to book herself on this show. I won’t do it. Because I don’t believe in fake news, or information that is not true...every time I’ve seen her on television, something’s askew, off or incorrect.” Trump continues to hypnotize his followers with made-up bullshit and they just lap it up. The other day at one of his rallies, he alluded to a terrorist attack in Sweden “last night.” This was news to the Swedes. It turns out he was inarticulately talking about Swedish immigration policy, but his people knew what he was saying.

Presser Stresser

I listened to the trump press conference yesterday almost all the way home from Stamford. I was with a bunch of cartoonist friends who are smart, informed, funny, committed and talented among so many other fine qualities. It was a culture shock to listen for an hour to that loathsome pile of excrement, the fake president, occupying the White House. Even Fox News Channel’s few enlightened TV talkers are appalled. Yeah, that’s right. I’m back watching the news and have been since the inauguration. And this time, I’m watching Fox as well as the other cable news channels and broadcast programs because if Fox sees something rotten in conservative America, it must be REALLY rotten. And maybe

Rights Are Wrong

Let’s face it. No country has a “right” to exist. We humans are surly, barely civilized animals and the higher up the power structure, the more primitive it gets. A country can only exists if it can conquer land and defend its borders. That goes for the United States, Canada, Russia, Israel and all countries of the world. European forces conquered the land of the Americas. They defeated the native populations and the conquerors still control it and defend it today. The modern political boundary of Israel was basically formed by the conquering victorious countries after World War II. Today, it occupies additional land captured in 1967 after the Six Day War, which was a surprise attack by its

Let It Snow

Living in New England, as I do, I consider myself an expert on snowflakes. It’s true that no two snowflakes are alike. Some are white, some are black, some are liberal...oops. Wrong snowflakes. This definition is from the online Urban Dictionary: An insult, used to mean that a person is too easily insulted or is too sensitive to opinions. Mainly used by Alt-Right Trumpet blowers, who ironically, don't realize they are the very definition of the insult they love to throw around. Snowflake is used by people who are incapable of using their intellect and their words to make their point in an intelligent manner. Snowflakes are formed in the freezing cold heart of conservative extremes. The

My Hero

Last year during the debates between trump and Hillary Clinton, every time I watched I pictured Elizabeth Warren up there kicking blondie’s fat ass. The only thing he seemed to have on her was calling her “Pocahontas” based on her claim she’s part Indian, which may, or may not be true. Big deal. During the Jeff Sessions hearings, Mitch “The Bitch” McConnell silenced her in the Senate using a little known rule. It backfired. He turned her into the most prominent and visible critic of the Republican debacle in Congress. Later on CNN, Warren said “They can shut me up, but they can’t change the truth,” which of course is true. But the GOPee has had an alternative relationship with the truth fo

Hit The Brakes!

I never thought that the presidency could sink lower than Richard Nixon, but I was wrong. Our fair system is in the hands of judges all across the country. Only they can save us in the next four years. It’s up to them to tie up every trump bad executive order. Some of those judges will be conservative Republicans and some will be liberal Democrats, but they will ALL be following and interpreting the law. Trump will find out the hard way that running a country is nothing like running a business.

Slapped Into Awareness

The other day, Trump was making fun of Sen. Charles Schumer’s emotional tears over the Muslim ban. Trump said that Schumer was faking and that he’d like to meet the senator’s acting coach. I thought that was cold, heartless and cruel. A few days later on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, the host ran a video of Supreme Court nominee Judge Neil Gorsuch’s reaction to hearing of the death of SCOTUS Judge Antonin Scalia. Gorsuch was skiing in Colorado and got the news by text on his phone. He said he skied down the mountain with tears in his eyes. Noah made fun of Gorsuch exclaiming that it was such a white man’s way of dealing with sadness––while skiing. What the fuck, I thought. That was cold,

Opposite Sides

I worked in the newspaper business for over 40 years and I can tell you that the animosity between politicians and reporters is nothing new. The reason is simple. First-rate reporters have a job to do and are not easily charmed or swayed by the slick style of a person determined to amass power through the democratic, or in the case of the United States presidency, not-so democratic process. I’ll never forget my first press conference with Gov. James Rhodes of Ohio in 1975. He’s the governor who ordered the Ohio National Guard to defend Kent State University from its own peaceful demonstrators in 1970 resulting in the killing of four students. I was suckered in by the governor’s answers to qu
